Technology at SJNCS

At Saint John Neumann Catholic School, technology serves learning—it does not drive it. We believe technology is a valuable educational tool, but it should never replace excellent teaching, meaningful relationships, or traditional instructional practices.

Our classrooms intentionally balance digital learning with opportunities for students to write, read deeply, solve problems, collaborate face-to-face, and reflect thoughtfully. While technology is used to enhance learning, expand educational opportunities, and encourage creativity, we also recognize the vital role of handwriting, paper-and-pencil activities, note-taking, and hands-on learning. Research consistently demonstrates that students develop stronger critical thinking, comprehension, memory retention, and communication skills when technology is balanced with traditional instructional methods.

Oversight & Accountability

To ensure this balance, school administration regularly reviews classroom technology usage throughout the school year. Monthly reports are used to monitor the amount of instructional time students spend on school-issued devices. These reports allow administrators to work collaboratively with teachers to ensure technology is being used purposefully, appropriately, and in alignment with our instructional philosophy. Our goal is not to eliminate technology, but to ensure it remains one of many effective instructional tools available to teachers.

St. John Neumann Catholic School maintains a secure, enterprise-grade network infrastructure with campus-wide wireless coverage and robust firewall protection. Age-appropriate electronic devices are available across classrooms to support collaborative and interactive learning experiences under teacher guidance.

Collaborative Tools & Student Safety

Classroom learning is supported through secure, educational productivity platforms built specifically for teaching and collaboration.

Student online safety is a top priority:

• Filtering & Monitoring: All school-issued student accounts and devices are protected using industry-standard web filtering, classroom management tools, and online activity monitoring.
• Protection & Guidance: These safety systems help protect students from inappropriate online content, allow teachers to monitor student activity during instruction, and assist administration in maintaining a safe digital environment.
• Acceptable Use Policy: Annually, students and parents review and sign an Acceptable Use Policy regarding school technology as outlined in the SJNCS Student-Parent Handbook.

Parent Partnership

Parents play an important role in developing responsible digital citizens. We encourage families to maintain open conversations about appropriate technology use, healthy screen habits, online safety, and digital responsibility both at school and at home. By working together, we help students develop the knowledge, virtue, and self-discipline necessary to use technology wisely in service of God and others.

Online Curriculum & Resources

Students access a variety of digital learning platforms that complement our core curriculum, including online textbook components, interactive library catalog resources, diagnostic assessment tools, and curated educational research websites.
