Religious Instruction at SJNCS

Through the integration of Catholic identity, spiritual formation, and moral/ethical behavior, our Catholic school implements a rigorous curriculum focused on skills essential for students to become socially responsible global citizens.  Our curriculum goals are illuminated by the light of faith and grounded in the spiritual truths of sacred scripture and Catholic tradition.  Religion is taught daily within the classroom in preschool through fourth grade. Middle school students attend separate religion classes. Preschool students attend Mass once per week. Students in kindergarten through eighth grade attend Mass twice per week. Students in second grade are prepared for First Reconciliation and First Communion. For a detailed description of Religious Instruction visit the Diocese of Knoxville Catholic Schools’ website at www. dioknox.org/schools/curriculum.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is our religion program for younger Mustangs.  Grades PreK through 3 attend our Atrium for an hour a week, where Mrs. Derbyshire works diligently to teach them the truth and beauty of the Catholic faith. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is often praised for its hands-on, Montessori-based approach, tailored to young children. It fosters a deep understanding of Christian faith through interactive activities, allowing children to explore and internalize religious concepts at their own pace. The program aims to nurture a strong spiritual foundation by engaging young minds in a meaningful way.

Parents are welcome to volunteer in our Atrium! For more information, contact your child’s homeroom teacher.
