Welcome to Middle School
Meet Ms. Benz
Ms. Benz grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but is thrilled to be in Tennessee teaching at St. John Neumann! She attended Catholic school for both grade school and high school, and graduated in 2019 from the University of Notre Dame with a major in English and Pre-Med and a minor in Theology. She is serving at SJN through Notre Dame’s Echo Program, through which she is concurrently earning her M.A. in Theology.
In addition to loving a good cup of tea, any British novel, and her seven siblings, Ms. Benz loves teaching religion! Among other experiences, it was serving as a catechist in a South Bend parish and interning at a Catholic school in London which inspired her to pursue teaching after graduation. She loves being a part of the SJNCS family and is excited for her second year of teaching at SJN.
What We're Learning This Year
The 6th grade religion class will focus on God’s saving love as revealed in Sacred Scriptures especially in the Old Testament. The call of Israelites as God’s people will help them daily increase their knowledge of salvation history so as to respond to God with ever-deepening love and gratitude.
7th grade enables students to develop vital, personal relationships with God and others through the study of Scripture and Tradition, in the teaching of Jesus Christ handed down to the Catholic Church. The seventh grade course aims at providing the students with an authentic Christian education based on Catholic faith at an early age so as to embrace God as their creator, Jesus as their model in life and continue living under the guidance and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. By focusing on Christ, the fullness of God’s revelation, the course aims at encouraging student to live a life devoted to Christ and witness God’s love throughout their lives.
